About our members

CAPS provides members with a hands-on opportunity to invest in, and guide, early-stage companies. Our members include over 60 C-level executives and company founders (both active and retired) who have helped build South Carolina and the American economic engine. They have expertise in every area of business, from technology to operations to finance, and across a diverse range of industries from Life Sciences, Manufacturing, Software, and Private Equity. At CAPS we leverage their insights to help us evaluate potential investments – and provide ongoing support and guidance for our portfolio companies.

To join CAPS as a member you must be an accredited investor according to SEC rules Given the risky nature of Angel investing, not only is this a legal requirement but something that any prospective member must fully appreciate.

Investment process

Step 1

Screening

The screening group conducts an initial review of all the applications we receive with the goal to bring in companies that are prepared to successfully pitch our members.

Step 2

Pitching

Companies come to pitch to Charleston Angel Partners’ monthly meeting where members can ask questions to the founders.

Step 3

Due Diligence

Once the membership agrees to collectively move forward with a company, a due diligence team is put together with members that know the industry.

Step 4

Term Sheet Negotiation and Investments

The DD team presents it’s findings, and members then are equipped with the information to decide if they want to individually invest in a company.
