What size investment will CHAP consider? Every situation is different but typically, $200,000 to $400,000 in a round of $1-3M where there are other investor groups involved.
How do I apply for consideration? Review the For Entrepreneurs section of this site to see if you meet the basic requirements, then Contact Us.
How long does the screening process take? It varies depending on where we are in our monthly review cycle when you first contact us. It also depends on our assessment of your plan and presentation and our screening committee's judgment on your state of "readiness". We invite the best 1-2 opportunities each month to present to the membership. CHAP investments generally take 12 weeks from inception to closing.
What kind of company is CHAP looking for? Generally, we are looking for fast growth in a well-defined space, a minimum $50 million business in 3-5 years, a plan to get there, opportunities that can return a 5-10x multiple to early stage investors.
What industries does CHAP focus on? We will consider any industry, but the characteristics of large size/growth and proprietary industry changing technology are common denominators.
What geographic concentration does CHAP consider? Charleston or SC based companies will receive special help and consideration. If you are not ready to graduate to the next stage, we will help get you there. We can supply mentoring help, development experience, and industry connections to help you develop your business plan. Our only expectation is that our assistance is genuinely sought. We would prefer that companies based outside the Charleston area come to us with a local lead investor group who has completed their due diligence process.
